EU basics: History of the European Integration, EU institutions, EU Decision Making

The first part of the presentation lays down the general provisions regarding the EU integration process. In this scope, origins and evolution of the European Union he are pointed out; more specifi cally the evolution of the European Community (the years between 1958-1984) and the institutional design by Intergovernmental Conferences and Treaties (the years between 1985-2008) are explained. At the later stage, signifi cance of European integration is categorized by simply presenting the European Economic Integration, European Political Integration and the Widening of the EU, in other words the Enlargement rounds. The first part also states the signifi cance of the civil society in the EU politics while stating the role of the civil society organization in European Integration, as well as the linkage between the Civil Society Dialogue & Enlargement. The second part of the presentation presents the EU institutions, EU policy making scheme and the lobbying at the European level. The core EU institutions are described, namely the the functioning and organization of the following are explained: European Commission, European Parliament, Council of Ministers and Other Institutions such as the Economic and Social Committee, Court of Justice, etc. The second part also mentions about the lobbying at the EU level, focusing on the public affairs and sectoral representation channels for the ICT sector. The third part figures out the institutional triangle of the EU decision making system. EU legislation procedures, namely the co-decision, assent and consultation are presented with diagrams and detailed examples.
