Commercial aspects in the market place
This part of the programme built upon the contents of the first week, particularly the parts of the programme dealing with development of competitive telecommunications markets and services, plus the visits to operators and the UK regulator. The main technological and market developments were described that have led to alternative means of providing an expanding range and choice of fixed, mobile and broadband service options.
- Information was given about the different types of service provider and their market evolution in an increasingly converging market
- The typical transformation path of the ex-monopoly incumbent operator was traced, predicting where their operators will go next.
- Examples of information were explored and discussed and a list showing their web addresses distributed. Many of these were demonstrated on-line.
- In the final session on the seventh day, the participants each prepared and delivered a short presentation on how their associations could improve telecommunications services in terms of improved information to consumers, being involved with the consultation processes in regulation and in promoting competition.
- Company reports on Telefonica and BT were handed out (in electronic format).
